Do you know where your medication came from?

Most Americans, at some point in their lives, have received a prescription from a doctor. Whether it's a prescription for antibioltics, managing pain, hormones, or appetitite supressants, like some of those we provide at transformyou, or any other of the thousands of drugs available on the American market, most of us have held that piece of paper signed by a doctor and benefitted from the effects of those prescriptions.

The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy recently released a warning to consumers about the dangers of buying prescription drugs online. More and more people are turning to the Internet in hopes of finding cheaper drugs that are seemingly easier to get, but the reality is the medicines purchased from these sites are often contaminated, counterfeit, or just plain unsafe for consumption. We add our plea to that of the NABP's to be educated on the dangers of buying drugs online and make informed decisions regarding these purchases. Based on the information found on the NABP's website, only 4% of the sites NABP reviewed are potentially legimate in that they appear to meet pharmacy laws and practice standards, based on information obtained from looking at the website alone.

The NABP is currently trying to help consumers know which sites are safe and which ones are not. They review thousands of websites every year and determine if they maintain safe pharmacy practices. The NABP receommends patients use sites accredited through the VIPPS or Vet-VIPPS (Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites or Veterinary-Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites) program. All sites that are approved through the VIPPS program have undergone and successfully completed the NABP accreditation process which includes an on-site inspection.
