Just as vitamins and minerals decline with age, the production of hormones in women decline with age as well. This decline in hormone levels effects estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid hormones, growth hormone, melatonin and DHEA. This natural aging process, including estrogen imbalance and low testesterone in women, can also bring on a lack of energy, changes in sleep, increased body fat, reduced muscle mass, hair loss, reduced sexual desire, decreased hormone production, decreased motivation and emotional changes.
Fortunately the medical team at transformyou is committed to helping you manage your age and get you back to feeling like your younger self.
An androgen (hormone) deficiency is often difficult to identify, as many women will think the symptoms result from psychological or lifestyle issues rather than a biological disorder. These symptoms can be inexplicable tiredness, lack of energy, disturbed sleep, low motivation levels, low self esteem and a complete lack of sexual desire (libido). A low level of androgens can also result in reduced bone density that can predispose to osteoporosis.
To confirm that a woman is suffering from androgen deficiency, the levels of testosterone and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) need to be evaluated. Research has shown that if a woman's level of "free" testosterone (calculated from the total testosterone level and the SHBG) is low, this produces symptoms of androgen deficiency even if levels of total testosterone alone appear "normal."
Hormone levels can be checked with a simple blood test that is covered by most insurances. This test is then evaluated by Dr. Bird to confirm the levels of the testosterone and the need for testosterone replacement therapy.
