VASER Shape Compared to Other Non-Invasive Body Contouring Devices
To help consumers become educated on their options, Robert J. Troell, MD, FACS, a well-respected doctor and fellow of the American College of Surgeons, put together a study comparing the efficiency of non-invasive body contouring devices. There are a couple of different technologies on the market claiming to be the best non-invasive body contouring device, including:
- Mechanical massage (Endermologie by LPG)
- Low-Level Diode Laser Therapy (by Zerona)
- Cryolipolysis (Cool Sculpting by Zeltiq)
- Ultrasound Diathermy (VASER Shape by Sound Surgical Technologies)
- Monopolar Radiofrequency (Thermacool by Solta, Accent by Alma, Venus Freeze by Venus Concepts, Excilis)
- Bipolar Radiofrequency, Infrared Light, Massage (Velashape II by Syneron)
- Focused ultrasound (Liposonic, Ultrashape)
The non-invasive body contouring devices evaluated for purposes of Troell's study include:
- Mechanical massage (Endermologie by LPG)
- Cryolipolysis (Cool Sculpting by Zeltiq)
- Bipolar Radiofrequency, Infrared Light, Massage (Velashape II by Syneron)
- Ultrasound Diathermy (VASER Shape by Sound Surgical Technologies)
All manufacturers advertised treatment outcomes of tightened skin, decreased body circumference, and a decrease in localized excess fatty tissue. The study treated one side of the body with half of the manufacturer's recommended treatment levels and then crossover to the opposite side with another modality with the same protocol. The study then analyzed skin tightening, circumferential reduction, the overall patient experience, patient pain, and tissue depth reduction.
VASER Shape Conclusions
After the study was completed, Dr. Troell released the following conclusions in regards to VASER Shape:
- Treats bodies tissues more deeply than other alternatives
- Greater reduction in depth of the deep fat layer
- More significant Scarpa’s fascia dissemination
- Affects a larger volume of fatty tissue
- Skin tightening observed
- Has immediate results, no resurgence of fat once removed
- Circumferential reduction may be observed with one treatment
- All body areas, except the face and neck, can be treated
- May “custom” shape the body areas from treated to nontreated
- Most patient satisfaction and comfort of all devices studied
- No complications noted
