Trigger points, also known as trigger sites or muscle knots, are described as hyperirritable spots in skeletal muscle.

The trigger point model states that unexplained pain frequently radiates from these points of local tenderness to broader areas, sometimes distant from the trigger point itself. Practitioners claim to have identified reliable referred pain patterns which associate pain in one location with trigger points elsewhere. There is variation in the procedure for diagnosis of trigger points and a lack of theory to explain how they arise and why they produce specific patterns of referred pain. Compression of a trigger point may provoke local tenderness, referred pain, or local twitch response. The local twitch response is not the same as a muscle spasm.

At transformyou, we have a solution to these unexplained tender points. Trigger Point Injections (TPI) is a procedure used to treat irritable, painful, and taut areas of muscle that contain trigger points, or knots of muscle that form when muscles do not relax. Pressing on the trigger point will “trigger” pain at the area of pressure and often in other areas. Many times these knots can be felt under the skin. Trigger points may irritate the nerves around them and cause referred pain, or pain that is felt in another part of the body. They can occur from direct muscle injuries, poor posture, stress, repetitive strain, or secondary from spine conditions such as a herniated disc.
